约翰·威廉姆斯(John Williams)被称为20世纪电影音乐代名词。他生于纽约，成名在好莱坞。20世纪50年代，他开始参与电影音乐工作。1971年以《屋顶上的提琴手》首获奥斯卡奖。1975年，因为《大白鲨》，他成为开创音乐与画面互动先河的历史人物。而他的知名度亦随着好莱坞主流电影超越了其他电影作曲家———《星球大战》系列、《超人》系列、《印第安纳·琼斯》系列、《侏罗纪公园》《辛德勒的名单》《拯救大兵瑞恩》《哈利·波特》系列……至今，他的电影音乐作品已接近90部。


　　他先后荣获5次奥斯卡金像奖及31次提名，三获金球奖，拥有17座格莱美奖杯和5座英国影艺学院的奖杯。从1979年末开始，约翰·威廉姆斯还接任美国波士顿流行乐团的指挥职务，演出的曲目涵盖了电影音乐、音乐剧、流行乐和爵士乐。这套双张CD的《经典回顾》收纳了他1969-1999年的27首代表作品，极具收藏价值。
